Award for our Islington Bereavement Team

Congratulations to our Islington Bereavement Service who have won an award for their fantastic work with bereaved people in Islington.

We are delighted to share the news that our Islington Bereavement Team have been awarded the Volunteering Team of the Year Award 2022 as part of the VAI’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.

The award, collected by Jonathan Marks and Susan Fagan (pictured) who have volunteered with the service for 7 years, was announced by Her Worship Mayor of Islington, Cllr Marian Spall at the London Metropolitan University.

The Islington Bereavement team of volunteers provide wonderful and compassionate support for bereaved Islington community members throughout the year,
both in person and remotely.

This has been particularly important for those bereaved during the pandemic with all the complexities this added to the experience of grief.

They are there every week, sitting with people in exceptional circumstances and helping them to re-engage through exercise classes, community groups and mental health services as well as volunteering and pursuing hobbies and interests that were not possible in the height of their grief.

We are so proud of everyone who is involved in this service and particularly our volunteers, we couldn’t do it without you.
