October is Speak Up Month

At St Joseph’s Hospice we are committed to clear and transparent practices and to building an honest and open culture.

That’s why we were early adopters of Freedom to Speak Up when the scheme was extended to Hospices in November 2018 and our HR Director and Director of Clinical Services were trained as Freedom to speak up Guardians.

Since then  we have built a network of Freedom to Speak Up champions, made up of staff and volunteers, who are there for anyone with concerns or worries.

Our bold headline, Speak Up We’ll Listen helps us to keep improving our services for all patients and the working environment for all our staff and volunteers – by enhancing our working lives, it improves the quality and safety of care.

This year’s theme for Speak Up Month 2022 is “Freedom to Speak Up for Everyone” and “Freedom to Speak up for Inclusion” which is particularly pertinent as it coincides with our celebrations at the Hospice for Black History Month.

Freedom to Speak up for Everyone brings together all of our staff, volunteers, patients and  visitors and we want to make sure that we are not afraid to speak up regardless of our job role, background or circumstance.
