St Joseph’s Hospice relies on the generosity and support of our local community to permit us to continue providing for our patients and their families. We need to raise around £7 million a year to keep the Hospice running and source income through a number of channels. By becoming a fundraising volunteer you would be directly assisting us with this mammoth task and ensuring that we can be there for everyone who needs us the most.
Whether you would like to volunteer on a regular weekly or monthly basis or if your time available to volunteer is on more of an ad hoc basis, we would love to welcome you to the Fundraising Team!
There are a number of roles available to suit your preferred level of time and commitment, based both in the Hospice and out and about. See below sections for more information on becoming a fundraising volunteer.
Events cheerers/ stewards
Supporters of St Joseph’s Hospice take on challenge events throughout the year, including running, walking and abseiling and we want to cheer them to show how amazing they are! The events cheerer role requires commitment on a one off basis and whether you are able to come to 1 event in the year or 8, we will kit you out with your very own St Joseph’s Hospice T-shirt and clapper to help you make as much noise as possible! Events usually take place on Sundays and the latest list of dates is below
- Royal Parks Half Marathon – Sunday 8th October
- Light up a Life, St Joseph’s Hospice – Thursday 7th December
As an events steward you will be asked to stand in a key location for our Great East End Walk or Light up a Life remembrance event and help to direct supporters to show them which way to go. Depending on placement you could be in position for 1 hour or up to 5 hours but every role is vital in helping us ensure the event is well run and our supporters have a positive experience.
We’re always looking for volunteers to help us with bucket collections throughout the year, with vital collections taking place in a range of locations across East London. Bucket collecting not only makes a massive difference to the Hospice, it’s a fun, sociable and hugely rewarding role, suitable for all ages and abilities. If you’d like to learn more about taking part in our bucket collections, and the exciting opportunities we have coming up, then check out our guide here, or get in touch with Charlie at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 020 8525 3200.
As an office volunteer, your role might include tasks from the below list as well as much more! Based in our friendly office at St Joseph’s Hospice, roles tend to last from 2 hours to a couple of days depending on the project and so there really is something for everyone! As a fundraising office volunteer you might help with:
- Sending out mailings
- Refreshing our collection tins
- Stock checking
- Making telephone calls
- Contacting local clubs and businesses
- Contacting local schools
- Making up packs for our annual Rudolph Run event
If you’re a whiz with data, we have availability for a volunteer to help with data entry, income processing, data cleansing and gift aid checking. As with all our roles, full training will be provided.
We’re looking for reliable volunteers to be trained up to go out to schools, local businesses, clubs and religious organisations to give talks and do cheque presentations on behalf of our Community Team. This is a specialist role within our fundraising team and ensures that we are able to physically meet as many of our supporters as possible from our local community, building relationships and encouraging continued support.
Volunteering is a great opportunity for your organisation to give back to the local community, whilst also providing your staff with a rewarding team building activity. Past teams have helped with
- Painting & decorating
- Hosting parties for our patients
- Wheelchair washing
- Skill sharing
- Helping in our retail shops
