On Wednesday 10th January, St Joseph’s Hospice opened its doors to its second Five Sisters Charity Shop in Mare Street, Hackney.

Located at the popular retail heartland of Hackney Central at 379 Mare Street, The Narrow Way, it will be a store for everyone, selling a range of pre-loved items to suit all tastes and budgets.

The shop was officially opened by Anya Sizer, the Speaker of Hackney, who has been fundraising for the Hospice throughout the past year as one of her chosen charities of the year. She was accompanied by her consort, Bernadette Bramble.

Anya Sizer said “I am delighted to officially open this fantastic new Five Sisters Charity Shop on behalf of St Joseph’s Hospice. This is a fabulous store selling lots of wonderful things.

I love that the shop is named Five Sisters in recognition of the five brave Sisters of Charity who played a pivotal role in opening the doors of St Joseph’s Hospice in 1905. It is befitting that their legacy lives on to this day. Do come along and take a look, you won’t be disappointed”.

The Five Sisters Charity Shop at 379 Mare Street will add to the Hospice’s retail portfolio which includes the Five Sisters Charity shop at 77 Mare Street, and the Well Street store, which have both been trading for more than 4 years.

Tracey Macbeth, Director of Comms and Enterpise said “Retail plays a valuable role in generating funds for the Hospice through the sale of good value sustainable items to the local community. We hope that this new store will be a fantastic addition to the area and we can’t wait to welcome our customers”.

The store will be run by full time staff and volunteers and will be open seven days a week, Monday to Saturday, 9.30 – 5.30pm and Sunday from 11am – 5pm.
