Festival of Communities 2023

Hear more about what we got up to at this year’s Festival of Communities!

For the second year in a row, the St Joseph’s Hospice team participated in the Queen Mary University of London Festival of Communities, held in Stepney Green Park. This year, the event welcomed around 5000 visitors.

This year, we had four members of staff representing St Joseph’s Hospice.

Karolina from the Patient and Family Counselling team brought an activity from the Elephant kit to engage with children.

Carmel from the Empowered Living Team asked children to think about five of the most important people or things in their lives and write them down on paper hands with the STJH logo. Children could also decorate their hands with lovely stickers.

Eyarun from the Compassionate Neighbours Team asked older children and their parents to pledge to one compassionate action over the summer, and talked to participants about volunteering at St Joseph’s Hospice.

Zivile, from the Volunteers’ Team, offered a hand massage to parents and talked to them about the Namaste Care Service.

We spoke to people about the Hospice services in general, as we found that people were not always aware of what we do. People were surprised about the services that we offer and mentioned their relatives and friends may benefit from our services. We also had some people who popped in to say hello and talked to us about the care their loved ones received from St Joseph’s Hospice.

The team really enjoyed the festival and are hoping to participate again next year.
