Foundations in Palliative Care – An Introduction to the Holistic Management of Pain in Advanced Illness
This module has been developed specifically for those who work within settings other than specialist palliative care, to enhance their holistic approach to the assessment and management of pain for people with advanced progressive illness.
Learning Objectives
- Have an awareness of the types and potential causes of pain in advanced cancer and other advanced illnesses
- Have an appreciation of the holistic dimensions of the lived experience of pain, taking into account the whole person.
- Understand the core components comprising a holistic assessment of pain attending to physical, psychological, social and spiritual domains of the pain experience.
- Have an awareness of the most current pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to manage pain in cancer and other advanced illnesses.
