Foundations in Palliative Care – An Introduction to Living Well with Breathlessness
This workshop has been developed for those who work within settings other than specialist palliative care, to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence in supporting patients with breathlessness and anxiety resulting from advanced progressive illness.

Learning Objectives
- Define breathlessness and be aware of the common mechanisms that may contribute to this symptom in advanced illness.
- Have an awareness of the reversible causes of breathlessness in advanced illness.
- Have an appreciation of the holistic dimensions of the lived experience of breathlessness, taking into account the whole person.
- Understand the core components comprising a holistic assessment of breathlessness attending to physical, psychological and spiritual domains.
- Have an awareness of the most current pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to manage breathlessness in cancer and other advanced illnesses.
