  HOSPICE NEWS
Darren, Seasonal Gardener with Jocelyn, Head Gardener
Winners of the London Hospice Gardens Competition
I met Jocelyn – the head gardener (I think of myself as the shoulders) at St Paul’s tube station at 6.30pm, and we made our way to the London Gardens Society trophy presentation ceremony in the very beautiful and stately Guildhall.
We entered the Guildhall and took our seats amongst other institutions like the Fire Brigade, London’s ambulance drivers, hospitals and other hospices, all keen for their gardens to win something. One by one, someone goes up to collect an award, whilst others wait to take their turn.
I knew I would be writing about this for Life magazine so hoped we wouldn’t leave empty handed – at least a certificate to pin up in the shed. The compère, the one and only Mr Jim Buttress VMH announced the category for Best Large Garden. The three nominated institutions were called out and their representatives were on standby, poised and ready for glory.
