Welfare Benefits
Our Welfare Benefits Service provides support to families, carers and bereaved carers with benefit applications and travel concessions. We provide support at the Hospice and in the community.
The Service has a Welfare Benefits Lead and a team of trained volunteers. Our Welfare Benefits Service can provide support to patients with:
- Advice and information regarding welfare benefits
- Help with identifying appropriate benefits by way of benefit calculations
- Support with benefit applications and maximising income
- Accessing grants for white goods, furniture, fuel bills and essentials
- Support with managing benefit overpayments from DWP and Local Authority
- Help with applying for travel concessions (blue badges, taxi cards, freedom pass, parking permits)
We can provide support to carers on the following:
- Benefit entitlements
- Advice on changes on benefit entitlement and how it will affect carers
- Support with applications of Carers Allowance and Universal Credit Support to bereaved carers on:
- Support and advice with funeral costs (Funeral Payments)
- Support applying for charitable grants for funeral expenses
- Advice and support on new claims for benefits
- Support applying for Bereavement Benefits.
