Volunteers Week 2025: Meet Dilek!

Meet Dilek! One of our newest volunteers at the Hospice, she’s been part of the Five Sisters Café team since March and is such a valued team member.

Dilek joined the Five Sisters Cafe team as she wanted to improve her customer service and communication skills.

Her role in the café is quite varied. She takes payments from customers, refills the shelves, and looks after the coffee machine keeping it up and running smoothly!

There are many different benefits to volunteer work. Dilek is hopeful that the experience she gains with us will help her find employment in customer service. She feels that volunteering has supported her professional development, especially through her interactions with customers. She said it has enabled her to make new friends, broaden her horizons, and that it feels good to do something for people who are vulnerable.

We asked Dilek what she would say to someone considering volunteering with St Joseph’s, and she said:

“It is a very kind environment, everyone is patient and helpful. I knew of St Joseph’s before, but I didn’t know how kind everyone is. I feel very comfortable developing my skills here. I have never seen this level of care and patience before and I love this environment.”

Thank you Dilek for all of your fantastic work!
