Contract Type: Fixed term until 30 September 2021

We are seeking a candidate for this Compassionate Neighbour coordinator role with community development experience, who also has an interest in End of Life Care. You will be enthusiastic, and driven with a creative and innovative flare, able to work with a variety of different people in the local community. Previous experience of delivering community led programmes in London would be an ideal fit for this role. It is essential that you have experience of delivering training and group sessions for people in the local community. Your personal drivers will be people motivated, putting others first and helping them to achieve their goals.

Compassionate Neighbours is a social movement of trained people providing emotional and social support to local people who are experiencing chronic or terminal illness and are lonely or isolated. We deliver experiential training for our neighbours to build their confidence in visiting people in the community and talking about death, loss, bereavement and dying. You will be training, matching and supporting neighbours to support others in the community, having direct experience with people who are facing serious illness.

We have received significant funding to further develop the project over the next 2.5 years, following a successful pilot scheme in an assisted living service in Hackney. We will be developing additional ‘hubs’ across Hackney and Tower Hamlets, enabling and empowering neighbours to run social events for community members, with a desire to create an environment for natural friendships to flourish, and to further involve the community in End of Life Care.

You will need:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of coordinating community development projects and working with volunteers.
  • Experience of facilitating groups and delivering training.
  • Experience of being part of monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • The ability to work with lots of different types of people.

Continuation of NHS Pension Scheme is available. We offer 27 days holiday and 8 public holidays and excellent pension scheme.
