It’s Dying Matters Week!

Dying Matters Week is an annual campaign, led by Hospice UK, that encourages all communities across the UK to open up the important conversations about death, dying, and bereavement.

The theme of this year’s campaign is The Culture of Dying Matters’. Together we are exploring how different communities and cultures in the UK talk about, and deal with death and dying – and what brings them together.

Three of our St Joseph’s Hospice volunteers, Berna, Lawrence and Pauline, have partnered with Hospice UK to create this insightful and moving film The Culture of Dying Matters, sharing their personal reflections on death and dying.

Berna and Lawrence both volunteer with our Islington Bereavement Service, offering emotional support and compassionate listening to bereaved adults in Islington. Whereas Pauline is a volunteer with our Compassionate Neighbours service, providing support and companionship to those who are living with a chronic life-limiting illness or are feeling isolated from their local community.

Between their volunteer work and lived experiences, everyone brought their own valuable insight to this important conversation!

A heartfelt thank you to Berna, Lawrence, Pauline, Hospice UK and Tom Edkins for all of their hard work on this fantastic project!

We’ll be sharing more about our related services and events throughout this week, be sure to keep an eye on our socials and Hospice UK’s for the latest updates!
