Thank You Andrea!

We’re excited to showcase the incredible work of Andrea, a super-creative friend of the Dementia Wellbeing East London (DWEL) service.

Twiddle Blankets

Did you know that people with dementia often have restless hands? Many find comfort in having something to keep their hands occupied.

An incredibly talented friend of the DWEL service, Andrea Ruddick, took the time to create these fantastic “Twiddle Blankets” to help with this! Check out her beautiful work, held by Rach, our DWEL manager.

Blankets Twiddle

Twiddle Blankets are knitted blankets with interesting tactile bits and bobs (e.g. buttons, ribbons, fabrics) attached for people who are agitated or anxious to twiddle with in their hands. They are designed to provide visual, tactile, and sensory stimulation while keeping restless hands busy and warm. Our DWEL team has found that these blankets can help decrease agitation and anxiety levels.

These objects don’t always have to come in blanket form—we’ve also received some amazing “Twiddle Cuffs” made by other wonderful volunteers, which are equally superb!

We can’t thank Andrea enough for her support of our service. We know these blankets will be greatly appreciated by our community members and their families.

If you would like to make and donate a Twiddle Blanket or find out more, please do not hesitate to contact our Dementia Wellbeing East London team at 020 8525 3165.
