Rejection of the Terminally Ill Adults (End-of-Life) Bill

Response to the rejection of the Terminally Ill Adults (End-of-Life) Bill by MPs on 11th September 2026.

Hospice Entrance

As a Catholic hospice, assisted dying plays no part in our specialist palliative care practice and is not consistent with our ethos or values. We therefore welcome today’s (11th September) rejection of the Assisted Dying Bill by MPs, while recognising that this is a deeply sensitive and personal issue for many people, families and communities.

Today’s decision should now prompt renewed focus on what matters most for people approaching the end of life: access to compassionate, high-quality palliative and end of life care, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances.

Hospices provide vital support not only to patients, but also to those who love and care for them, helping people live as well as possible for as long as possible.

To make this possible, hospices across the country urgently need appropriate and sustainable funding. We urge the Government to work closely with the hospice sector to ensure services are properly resourced, now and for the future.
