Reflections of Life
A new exhibition in celebration of our Day Hospice patients.
Come and see Reflections of Life, our new upcoming exhibition!
Reflections of Life is a collaboration between our Day Hospice service, SDNA digital arts studio and fine artist Cate Halpin, who has been leading a series of creative workshops at St Joseph’s throughout 2024 focusing on drawing, painting, photography and storytelling. These workshops have resulted in the creation of a series of individual self-portraits and soundscapes, capturing the essence and stories of our amazing patients, staff and volunteers.
From Tuesday 21st January until Tuesday 18th February, these self-portraits will be projected outdoors and large-scale onto the front of the Hospice (on the wall by the nursery), from dusk until late evening for all of Mare Street to enjoy! The series makes up a complete portrait of our patients, staff and volunteers that make the Day Hospice such a life-affirming and happy place. Alongside this, there will be a parallel exhibition inside the Hospice, featuring audio-visual elements that combine the artwork with recorded stories and photographs. The indoor section will run for a shorter period, 21st – 31st January – so make sure you don’t miss it!
The patients in our Day Hospice are a diverse and talented group with a wealth of incredible stories to tell. Their warmth and the sense of community amongst the group is clear to everyone who has ever visited. We are overjoyed to see each individual honoured in such a beautiful way through the exhibition.
Reflections of Life is funded by Cultural Hackney – a Hackney Council initiative reflecting and celebrating the borough’s rich diversity and heritage through its communities. We want to say a massive thank you to Hackney Council, C.A. Halpin and SDNA for enabling this exhibition to happen. In these dark winter months, it will be wonderful to see our amazing patients brightening up our building and the local area.
This project has been an amazing creative and therapeutic experience for everyone involved and St Joseph’s Hospice is proud to celebrate the lives and stories of those who share their lives with us.
Take a sneak preview of some of the fabulous portraits below – but you’ll have to come along to see their beauty in person!
