We are delighted to announce that Joe's Gallery is now open. Over the last few years, St Joseph's Hospice has proudly displayed art created by patients and local artists; some purely for viewing purposes, and others in a fundraising capacity.
The further development of the Arts Programme means that we were keen to have a permanent space at The Hospice, with its own identity - hence the launch of Joe's Gallery.
The inaugural exhibition, under the newly opened Joe's Gallery, is the Mosaic Project. Please drop by and visit it.
Tessa Hunkin, a local artist and professional mosaicist, works closely with a team, whose skills, drawn from the Ancient Roman tradition, deliver contemporary pieces for all to enjoy. Tessa has been kind enough to introduce St Joseph's to the Hackney Mosaic Project.
The Hackney Mosaic Project aims to help people with addiction and mental health problems and at the same time to improve neglected corners of the city. They engage volunteers in making large mosaics in Hackney Parks, and also teach and encourage them to create their own artworks.
The Hackney Mosaic Project does not just make colourful pictures out of broken fragments - it also pieces back together the broken lives of the participants, and builds a new community by bringing them together around a shared vision. The funds, from sales, will go towards the Hackney Mosaic Project and St Joseph's Hospice.
