Complementary therapies

Complementary therapies can help you to cope with some of the stresses caused by serious illness. Many therapies are relaxing, and provide an enjoyable experience that may lift your spirits. Some complementary therapies can also help relieve your symptoms.

We offer a wide range of complementary therapies including:

  • acupuncture
  • acupressure
  • aromatherapy
  • bowen therapy
  • cupping
  • indian head massage
  • massage (Holistic & Swedish)
  • shiatsu massage
  • reflexology
  • reiki
  • tuina.

These treatments are available free of charge to our patients and their families and carers. All services are provided by fully qualified volunteer therapists and the range of available therapies may change over time.

If you require a female therapist or a family member to accompany you during treatment, please let us know.

Group complementary therapies
St Joseph’s Hospice also provides group complementary therapy sessions for patients and their families and carers, as well as for staff, volunteers, and the members of public. These include:

  • community choir
  • neurological support group
  • relaxation and meditation
  • seated acupuncture group
  • tai chi juan
  • yoga (fee charged).
