New specialist Covid-19 bereavement service for children and young people

In partnership with City & Hackney CCG, St Joseph’s has been commissioned to provide a specialist bereavement support service for children and young people who have experienced the death of a relative, care-giver or significant other from Covid-related symptoms.

The service is being provided through our Patient & Family Counselling Team. Drawing upon art psychotherapy and therapeutic counselling, the service will work in systemic way with the child and the care givers to strengthen bonds and resources within the family. Following the initial consultation the support provided could include:

Individual counselling
Family sessions
Bereavement groups and memorial events
Art therapy

The service is now open for referrals and is available for any child or young person up to the age of 18 who either live in City & Hackney or are registered with a City & Hackney GP. Families can self-refer for an assessment, via the First Contact team on 0300 303 0400 / stjosephs.firstcontact@nhs.net, or a referral can be made by any internal or external social or health care professional on behalf of the child or young person.

If you would like to discuss any questions before making a referral, please contact the Patient & Family Counselling Team on 020 8525 3229.
