New key worker suites thanks to generous gift
This week we saw the official opening of accommodation suites in St Patrick’s Wing for key workers who come to work at St Joseph’s Hospice from around the world. Recruiting nurses and clinical professionals is an issue in East London as rents are extremely high across London and with a natural shortage of nurses, alluring them to the East End is sometimes a challenge.
There are six suites in the St Patrick’s Wing complex, providing comfortable accommodation, a communal kitchen and laundry room and a sitting room area for leisure time.
This was all made possible with a legacy from C. Douglas Woodward, CBE, who spent his formative years in Hackney and remembered St Joseph’s Hospice throughout his life.
His good friends and neighbours Fiona and Alan came along to officially open the suites and to see the commemorative plaque in his name as well as a bench which will have a special spot in the garden, as a way of honouring his generosity.
A huge thank you to Fiona and Alan for coming along and to Douglas for his precious gift, demonstrating the power of generosity through Gifts in Wills.
