Lady Mayoress visits St Joseph's Hospice

We were delighted to welcome Lady Mayoress, Samantha Bowman, and the Sheriff's Consorts, Amanda Keaveny and Peter Green, on their visit to St Joseph’s today.

After an introduction to the hospice from our Senior Management Team, the party were taken on a tour of the hospice by our new Chief Executive Tony McLean, Director of Clinical Services, Jane Naismith and Matron, Debbie Pegram.

The tour included a sneak peak at the newly refurbished Lourdes Ward which is almost ready for patients. Our guests were really impressed with the lightness and homely feel.

The party then popped into Day Hospice for a chat with the patients, with Lilian, our 95 and a half (don't forget the half) year old who spent some time telling the Lady Mayoress about her life. They got on like a house on fire.

The final stop on the tour was the Chapel, where Sheriff’s Consort Amanda Keaveny, a former nurse, lit a candle. As it turned out Amanda was trained by the Religious Sisters of Charity in Dublin and she was delighted to find out that our very own Sr Maria taught there many years ago so we arranged for them to meet and have a chat, and a hug.

It was a really lovely visit and we hope that Samantha, Amanda and Peter enjoyed it. Amanda has promised to bring her "well behaved" Jack Russell in to visit the patients, we look forward to seeing them soon.

We would like to hear from you
