It's all in the mindfulness

This is Simon Robey, he’s our Therapies and Namaste Care Co-ordinator. He manages the therapies team which comprises physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language, dietetics, complementary therapies & Namaste Care dementia service.

Simon came to St Joseph’s around 9 years ago, he lives in Hackney and wanted to work within his own community. He certainly found what he was looking for. St Joseph’s is at the heart of the Hackney community and its staff and volunteers all come together because they are compassionate people who care, that is really important to him.

He soon realised that there were other ways to bring people together so he set up a choir which is still going today. He’s always looking for new members, being able to sing is optional!

He also runs morning mindfulness sessions and meditation and relaxation for staff, volunteers and patients, in fact he’s training to be a mindfulness teacher. We think he’ll be great!

Mindfulness and meditation helps people cope with the stresses and strains of life by coming back to the present moment at times when we feel out of our depth.

Everyone who knows Simon will have noticed that he has a really nice line in fancy shirts, if we saw him in plain blue we may call for help. He explained that his shirts are a reflection of the colourful fabric of life and even among great suffering, transformation and death, there’s still joy to behold. We think that’s not a bad outlook on life!

Thank you Simon.
