New CEO for St Joseph’s Hospice
St Joseph’s Hospice is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Rachel Black as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Tony McLean who retires this month.
Dr Black joins St Joseph’s Hospice from the Orpheus Centre where she has been CEO since 2019. A registered nurse, she was Director of Care at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice following service with Demelza Hospice Care for Children which included leading clinical education and nurse consultancy. Dr Black has lectured and examined at a number of universities since 1995.
Chair of Trustees Paddy McGuinness said: “The Trustees of St Joseph’s Hospice are delighted to welcome Dr Black as Chief Executive Officer. Rachel brings a rare combination of proven strong organisational leadership skills, a deep experience of palliative care and a noteworthy contribution as a published researcher and lecturer.”
He continued: “Tony joined us in 2018 and has shown exceptional leadership throughout his term including the Covid pandemic and the more recent economic turbulence. While welcoming Rachel, we also mark Tony’s outstanding service with huge admiration and thanks.”
Dr Black said: “St Joseph’s and its people have an inspiring record of providing compassionate palliative and end-of-life care, personalised for each individual and those important to them. I am delighted to be joining the team and am looking forward to learning more about St Joseph’s rich history, and meeting patients, families, trustees, staff, volunteers and local communities.”
Jane Naismith will serve as Interim CEO until Dr Black’s arrival later this year. She will then revert to her previous role as Deputy CEO, Director of Clinical Services and Registered Manager.
