Remember loved ones at our Light Up a Life Service

Please note that only dedications received by 24th November will feature in our online remembrance book though stars will still be written.

Many people find it a very positive experience to come together with others who have lost those dear to them and celebrate their lives. The service is open to people of all faiths and none and it will feature music and readings to help us remember and celebrate the lives of those we have lost. It is completely free to attend.

Hot drinks and mince pies will be available outside to keep everyone warm in the winter air. This year, as we still need to shield our vulnerable patients from Covid, we are holding the service outside the Hospice*. Visitors will only be able to enter the Hospice to use the toilets on the ground floor. Due to the number of guests expected on the night, seating will be limited to those who are unable to stand for the duration of the service. Do let us know if that is the case.

For those who are unable to attend the service in person, we will be live streaming the event, so you will be able to watch it from the comfort of your own home.

* Please note that if Covid guidance changes, we may need to modify the event in line with current restrictions.

Dedicate a light to a loved one

The most powerful moment of the evening is when the Remembrance Tree lights are switched on. Each light symbolises the life of a loved one who is no longer with us and you are able to dedicate a light to remember those you have lost.

Dedications will also be included in our online remembrance book for those who dedicate by Thursday 24th November 2022. We will also have a display of special golden stars with special messages in memory of loved ones. You are able to enter your dedication and message on the form below and we will write the message on a star for you.

Unlike previous years, there will not be an opportunity to write messages on the night, so do make sure you enter it on the form, even if you are attending the service.

Your support is so important

Light Up a Life is not only a time to remember family and friends, but also a time to reflect on the care and compassion of the staff of St Joseph’s Hospice who have dedicated their time to those in their care. They work tirelessly to ensure that patients at St Joseph’s live the best lives possible right up until the end, whilst supporting families and friends to come to terms with the illness and loss of their loved ones.

We wouldn’t be able to provide the excellent level of care we pride ourselves on without our fantastic supporters. It would mean so much if you could consider including a donation with your dedication.
