Life Lanterns 2025

Last week our Children and Young People’s Bereavement Service held a special remembrance event, Life Lanterns, bringing families together to honour their loved ones.

Life Lanterns is a special annual event for bereaved children and their families to make lanterns as a way to remember their loved ones.

Guests joined us in the garden room on the evening of the event, where they were given a variety of arts and crafts materials to design their own lantern. Each lantern was made in honour of someone special, and everyone was encouraged to express themselves and do whatever they wished with their creation. We had some fantastic artists in the group, and all the finished pieces were absolutely beautiful.

Once the design work was completed, we held a procession into the garden, where we gently placed the lanterns on the pond to float together. It was peaceful as everyone paused together to remember their loved ones. Andy, our Child and Family Therapist, spoke with our attendees as they were working on their lanterns and he shared some personal reflections about each person, reading out a sentence or two about what they were like.

It was a special night filled with love. Thank you to everyone who came along and made this event so meaningful.
