Schools and Universities
Over the years we’ve worked with lots of fantastic primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities who have chosen to support St Joseph’s Hospice, and created the next generation of charitable givers in East London.
You can help us continue to make moments count for local families who are facing a life-limiting diagnosis. In return, we can help your students understand and be comfortable talking about hospice care, death and grief, and the importance of charitable giving and community support, through age-appropriate presentations and resource packs.
Why support St Joseph's Hospice?
At St Joseph’s Hospice, we are here for every member of the family. Our Children and Young People’s Bereavement Service exists to help children who have experienced the loss of a loved one through counselling, support groups and art workshops. We also have our mascot – Snorky the Elephant (pictured left) – who has his very own play area here at the Hospice, as well as featuring in our Elephant Kits – special bespoke boxes made up for children who are visiting a relative or who have been bereaved that help them understand what is happening, express their feelings and fears, and begin to grieve in a safe environment.
Any fundraising you do will go directly to funding services such as this and demonstrate your commitment to supporting all people within the local community. We serve an incredibly diverse community and can complement your existing timetable of events and activities that champion and celebrate the different cultures that make us all special and unique.
There's lots of ways that your school can get involved:
- Choose St Joseph’s Hospice as your Charity of the Year
- Hold a non-uniform or fancy dress day
- Have a bake sale
- Use one of our ready-made challenges below!
Clapton Girls Academy recently ran a bake sale in support of St Joseph’s Hospice. They said:
“What an incredible achievement by our students at the bake sale! They not only sold every dessert but also made an impact by spreading awareness and raising funds for St Joseph’s Hospice. We are immensely proud of our students’ compassion and their commitment to making a difference.”
As well as supporting you to hold exciting fundraising events at school, our team can also visit your school and talk with pupils about the Hospice, and what we do.
Annual events
Teachers: we know you need to plan terms ahead, so packs for our annual events are available here all year round! These can be run whenever and however you wish, and we are always on hand to support.
Rudolph Run
Our festive fundraiser, perfect for raising a bit of money and getting into the Christmas spirit.
Sports Day
Turn your annual Sports Day into a fundraiser for your local Hospice.
Colleges and Universities
We look to build partnerships with higher education institutions which will help your students gain experience that they can apply to life beyond learning, from apprentice-style challenges to build their practical and professional skills to feats of fitness that benefit their mental and physical health.
If you are on a RAG or Community Action committee, we can offer you and your society opportunities to engage first-hand with those in the East London community who need support, through volunteering and fundraising, and will be sure to recognise your efforts across our social media channels.
