What your support makes possible

Every donation helps us provide specialist care and support for people living with life-limiting illness across East London, as well as their families and loved ones.

From expert nursing and pain management to emotional support and time to simply be together, we’re here when it matters most.

Our care is always free, and we support people in many different ways:

  • Expert, compassionate end of life care and palliative rehabilitation at the Hospice or in the place people call home
  • Outpatient and day services, including our Day Hospice
  • Therapies to help people stay independent, including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and dietetics
  • Community services for people facing isolation, loneliness and dementia
  • Counselling for patients and their families following a life-limiting diagnosis
  • Bereavement support for children and adults, including counselling, groups and therapies

We receive just over half of our funding from the NHS, which leaves us needing to raise around £6m a year just to meet our running costs. As costs grow and demand increases, we need the help of our community to keep caring for everyone who needs us.

Donations like yours help us continue to provide this care

“My mother, Joyce, had congestive heart failure for over a decade, when her condition began to deteriorate rapidly and she was in and out of hospital.

We spoke to her GP about what care we could give her at home, and they recommended St Joseph’s Hospice.

With the support of the hospice team, her medication was adjusted and she was able to have oxygen at home, which gave her another five months of ‘within-limits good life’.

The physio team helped us find ways for her to stay independent – even something as simple as getting to the bathroom so we could wash her hair. Then, a hairdresser came to visit, so she could have her hair blow-dried. It helped her to keep herself as herself.

What was so special is that it was only the last weeks of her life that were about dying. Before that, although she was ill, it was all about living well.”
