About the 2024 Great East End Walk

Our flagship walk is BACK for 2024!

Join #TeamSTJH for this year’s Great East End Walk, now starting and finishing at St Joseph’s Hospice. This is your chance to celebrate the hard work of our doctors, nurses and the rest of the amazing teams that make St Joseph’s so special by helping us to raise the funds we need to continue providing our care.

Whether you’re walking in memory of someone special, it’s your first ever Great East End Walk, your 24th time taking part, or you just want to come together with your local community for a good cause, we can’t wait to welcome you along on the day.

When: Sunday 8th September 2024

Distance:

10 mile route: Starts and ends at St Joseph’s Hospice.

3-mile route: Starts at St Joseph’s Hospice and ending at Spitalfields City Farm – but do come back to the Hospice for snacks and photos!

Why take on this year’s Great East End Walk for St Joseph’s Hospice?

We ask each person entering to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship as part of this event. All money raised will go towards helping us continue to provide free, specialist care for local families affected by life-limiting illness.

How your support will help

A life-limiting diagnosis can turn your world upside down. It can affect every part of your life, as well as those around you. St Joseph’s Hospice is there to support people and their families at a time when they are most vulnerable, and it is so important to us that each person gets the support and care they need to make every moment count after their diagnosis.

We care for around 6,000 local people each year. This goes far beyond our wards and the people we look after in the community, with our expert teams offering a range of services including counselling and emotional support, practical support for carers and with managing the costs of illness and our 24/7 helpline to name a few.

We have to raise around £7m each year to ensure we can keep supporting everyone who needs us.

Your sponsorship will make a huge difference – not only will your money go directly towards the work of our amazing Hospice, but you’ll also be helping us to raise awareness of St Joseph’s and hospice care.

    FAQs

    What is the start time?

This year we are planning to have the same start time of 9am for all walkers. If you’d prefer to start earlier (the earliest start is 8.30am) or later (the latest start is 10am) then please email Becky at events@stjh.org.uk.

    How do I fundraise?

As part of your registration fee you’ll get one of our fundraising packs with all of our tips on how to fundraise. You can either fundraise using a sponsorship form or on JustGiving.

Do I have to raise money for St Joseph’s Hospice?

Yes, this is a fundraiser for St Joseph’s Hospice as organising the event does come at a cost to the Hospice. We need fundraisers to raise money for us to ensure the Hospice can keep providing excellent care.

Can my friends and family cheer me on?

Family and friends are more than welcome to join you at the start and finish to cheer you on.

I’ve registered but now I can’t make it, what should I do?

Please email Becky at events@stjh.org.uk and we can defer your place to the 2025 event.

Not local or can’t make the date? Why not take on your very own Great East End Walk? Email events@stjh.org.uk for all the details.

Can I turn up and join on the day?

Yes, registrations will be open on the day. Please arrive at 8.30am and we will get you signed up! Registrations on the day will be £20 no t-shirt and £25 with t-shirt.

I want to volunteer on the day, who do I contact?

Thank you! That’s so generous – we always need volunteers to help! Please email events@stjh.org.uk and we’ll give you information on timings and what we need help with!

    Please be aware...

NB: As with all challenge events, this date may be subject to postponement or cancellation.
    We
will keep our walkers up-to-date with any changes if and when they are announced.
