St Joseph's Carer Social Club

The Carer Social Club is a peer support group for unpaid carers who are caring for someone with a life-limiting or progressive condition.

The group takes place at St Joseph’s Hospice on the second Thursday of each month, from 1pm-3pm.

It’s a chance to:

  • Socialise with others who understand what you’re going through

  • Share experiences in a supportive, welcoming space

  • Access free training and guidance on caring for someone with a palliative condition, facilitated by specialist clinical staff

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to bring the person you care for with you to the group. We understand how difficult it can be to get time away, so you’re very welcome to attend even if you need to arrive late or leave early.

This month’s session will focus on self-care, with practical support and discussion around looking after your own wellbeing while caring for others.

How to register

You can self-refer by calling our First Contact Team on 0300 30 30 400, Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm.

The Carer Social Club has eligibility criteria to make sure the training meets the needs of those attending. You can attend if:

  • You are aged 18 or over

  • You are a resident of, or care for someone who lives in, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, or Newham

  • The person you care for has a life-limiting or progressive condition, is under palliative care, or has moderate to advanced dementia

  • The person you care for does not need to be known to hospice services for you to attend

If the person you care for is known to St Joseph’s services, we may be able to help you access respite support to enable you to attend. Please contact Jo Bedford to find out more.
