Palliative Care Training For You
We deliver an innovative and wide-ranging programme of palliative care training. Drawing on a wealth of experience and expertise from it's professional healthcare staff and Education Team, anyone with an interest in End of Life Care will be able to find the right course for them.
Most of the courses below are open to anyone, although many require an application form that will be assessed for suitability. Organisations are also welcome to enquire about bespoke training courses.
Foundations in Palliative Care
A unique course using St Joseph's Hospice staff's expertise and experience in palliative care. Foundations in Palliative Care provides an interactive and insightful introduction into End of Life care for any health or social care professional that has a role in supporting people living with, or dying from advanced illness.

Advanced Communication Skills Training
Based on the Connected model, this 2 day course utilises an interactive workshop approach for participants to practise their skills and is relevant to all senior health and social care professionals.

QCF Level 3 Award in End of Life Care
A 4 day course aimed at health care workers with an interest in end of life care and the impact on individuals, their carers and families.
Next course: November 2018.
£300. Full 4 days attendance for the level 3 accreditation (award).
£200. 3½ days attendance for the non- accredited option.
Sharing expertise, promoting excellence. In this unique series of masterclasses, leading professionals share best practice, discuss ‘hot topics’ and promote excellence in palliative care.

Behavioural Change Management
Behavioural Change theories and models are attempts to explain the reasons behind alterations in individuals' behaviour patterns. In recent years, there has been increased interest in the application of those theories in the area of health & education. This one day workshop explores some of the major theories of behaviour and behaviour change that are essential to the development of effective interventions in behaviour.
A course designed to help develop an individual's ability in demonstrating assertiveness through the teaching and learning of vital assertiveness skills, which can be applied in various settings.
Sage & Thyme
Dealing with people in distress: this foundation level workshop (3 hours) teaches communications skills and how to empower patients and carers.
Training in the de-escalation and repsonsding to actual and potential aggression, including one-to-one incidents.
Building Emotional Resilience
Available for anyone to attend, this course will develop your understanding of emotional health and use strategies to recognise stress and build emotional resilience.
Handling Difficult Conversations
This course will develop skills and confidence to acknowledge difficult circumstances and feelings effectively, sensitively and professionally.
Verification of Expected Death
This course will help you understad the legal framework governing verification of expected death. The differences between verification & certification, and, Practical procedures & safe practice.
