Compassionate Employer Silver Award
Over the past year we have been working towards achieving a Hospice UK Compassionate Employer award and we’re delighted to announce that we have earned the Silver Award.
The Compassionate Employer programme is designed to provide managers with the skills they need to support colleagues who are experiencing death and dying and to assess how well an organisation responds to and supports colleagues. This helps organisations look after their people and support staff through grief, dying, and caring and has recently been broadened out to provide support at other difficult times such as divorce for example.
We’re not resting on our laurels though as we are aiming for gold and there are a few things we need to focus on to achieve that. Namely:
- Providing access to specific learning opportunities and advice for managers, staff and HR professionals
- Developing our programme of support for Carers for example with carer passports
- Supporting our Mental Health First Aiders to support colleagues who have experienced bereavement and grief
- Spreading the word about the support and e-learning on the Members Hub
- Ensuring all our policy development is driven by reliable data
Janet Simkins, Director of HR said, “Our core values speak directly into what this programme is seeking to achieve. We want all our staff, paid employees and volunteers, to be well supported at the most difficult time in their lives and to have the assurance that the structure and plans are in place and will be deployed consistently and effectively should the worst happen. Our goal is to achieve that.”
