Compassionate Neighbours bring Christmas cheer to the community
While most of us were tucking into our Christmas Day lunch, some of the Compassionate Neighbours team – complete with an army of volunteers – were busy hosting festivities at St Joseph’s.
St Joseph’s Julie Bailue and Joy Kahumbu organised the event for people who were going to be on their own at Christmas, guests from local housing association Limetree Court and patients, accompanied by their Compassionate Neighbour. For Julie, the day was a family affair with her husband and youngest son both volunteering to help out, as did friends of Joy.
The local community demonstrated its trademark generosity by donating food, transport and, most importantly, their time, to ensure that the 30 guests had a lovely day.
Julie commented, ‘It was wonderful to see people really getting into the spirit of the day and thoroughly enjoying themselves. We prepared gift bags and Santa popped by to hand them out.’
Great fun was had by all, with guests enjoying a fabulous lunch, board games, lots of laughter, as well as singing and dancing, including entertainment from one guest with the voice of an angel, accompanied by a volunteer who is an opera singer!
Many thanks to all the volunteers and colleagues involved, with special mentions for @sainsburys, caterers Valeside, and not forgetting Santa.
