After their visit to the Hospice last year, to open St Patrick’s Wing in memory of their good friend C. Douglas Woodward, Fiona and Alan were so inspired by our work that they wanted to do more to help.
Knowing our Pop-Up Shop was doing so well, they decided to organise a collection of high-quality clothing, accessories and homeware from their neighbours in The Barbican.
Their friends and neighbours rallied to the cause and not only selected lovely items to donate, but many took the time to polish the shoes or dry clean the coats which was wonderful. Among the items are some particularly nice hats, many of which have been lovingly donated in hat boxes which will be perfect for Spring weddings or a Day at the Races.
Our volunteers have started sorting the donations, and some of the items will be available in our Pop-Up Shop, some online on our eBay page, and some at our upcoming Community Sale in the Hospice on 23rd March.
Sarah Goddard, Head of Events and Appeals, who met Fiona said, “It’s overwhelming to see, not only how generously everyone has donated, but how much care and time has been put into ensuring the donations are excellent quality so they raise as much as possible. Thank you so much to everyone from The Barbican who donated, and especially to Fiona and Alan for doing such an amazing job!”
We’d love to see more groups of neighbours and friends come together to collect donations for the Hospice, especially if as a group the co-ordinator can help sort and prepare the items to so that they raise as much as possible.
Or if you're thinking about a spring clean and de-clutter, or have some clothes or items ready to donate, you can always drop these off at the Pop-Up Shop at 194 Well Street, Hackney. Thank you.
