Our position on Assisted Dying
St Joseph’s Hospice provides free of charge specialist palliative care to people with a life-limiting illness and to those who are nearing the end of life. Each and every care journey is personalised to address the individual needs of both the patient and their loved ones.
Our Mission – informed by 120 years’ experience in palliative care – is to provide the very best care, whether at home, in the community, or here at St Joseph’s, as we journey hand in hand with our patients until the end of their natural life.
We recognise that assisted dying is an emotive issue. As a Catholic hospice, our position is that assisted dying plays no part in our specialist palliative care practice and is not consistent with our ethos or values. We neither hasten death nor postpone it. We cherish life, but also embrace a natural death when it comes.
