A record-breaking Great East End Walk!

Sunday 7th September saw over 140 amazing walkers take to the streets of East London for our annual sponsored walk.

The sun shined for our brilliant team of walkers as they put on their glitter, warmed up with Hospice physio Richie and set off for a day of landmarks and hidden East End gems, all whilst raising money for St Joseph’s. This year, we introduced our special 12 mile Birthday Challenge to commemorate the 25th year of the walk, as well as the 120 years since St Joseph’s Hospice first opened its doors. From Columbia Road Flower Market to Stepney City Farm and Victoria Park, our walkers wore their St Joseph’s shirts with pride across the City, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!

From a supporter completing their 20th (!) Great East End Walk, to three generations of the same family taking part in their first, we met so many amazing Hospice supporters all with their own special reason as to why they were taking part.

Record-breaking fundraising

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that our walkers have raised a record-breaking £43,000 and counting! This incredible sum could pay for around four days of inpatient care across our two wards, helping people who are staying with us for rehabilitative or end of life care.

As a local charity receiving around half of our funding from the NHS, we need to raise around £6 million per year to meet our running costs, which is why we are so grateful for our amazing walkers and their friends, families and communities who have supported the Great East End Walk through their sponsorship.

Thank you

We’re grateful everyone who made this day possible, from our staff teams across the Hospice, to our amazing volunteer marshals who gave up their Sundays to spread smiles along the route. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to each and every amazing walker who joined us on the day.
