Welcome to the on-line recruitment section of our website. St. Joseph’s is one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK, with around 300 full and part time staff covering all aspects of our work. Our staff and volunteers are our greatest assets, and as a responsible employer, we place great emphasis on their welfare and career development.



Caring for those in the final weeks of their lives can be very demanding, and at times it can be sad, but working at St. Joseph’s is also very rewarding and uplifting. Our staffing ratios are much higher than in the NHS, and we are very keen for our staff to develop their skills and improve their career progression through personal development and training. Our pay scales are directly comparable with those of the NHS. We offer generous pension arrangements which are fully stakeholder compliant, and those staff who are existing members of the NHS Superannuation scheme have the opportunity to continue their contributions.

We have a good staff support network, offering group or one to one counselling, meditation and relaxation sessions, stress management seminars and free sessions of complementary therapies for staff.
