Help In The Hospice
“I resisted coming here. Nobody wants to leave their home but, once I settled in here, I realised it was the only thing for me. The finest thing for me.” Ron Richards, a former patient.

People who have been diagnosed with life-limiting disease come to St Joseph’s for specialist care in treating and relieving their symptoms. They are referred by their GP or by our Community Palliative Care Team who support people in their own homes or by local hospitals.
The hospice has a team of people, each a specialist in their own area of expertise, which works to meet all the needs of the patients. The most obvious needs will be pain and symptom control which will be undertaken by doctors and the nursing staff but the team looks after the whole person so includes our chaplaincy, social workers, physiotherapists and alternative therapists.
Different people have different needs so some come for a few days treatment for symptom control and then go home. Others may come for respite care to allow their carers a period of rest. Some come for the last days of their lives.
The chaplaincy includes representative of many of the faith groups which live in our area. People of all faiths and of no faith are equally welcomed to St Joseph’s. Special needs, wishes and diets are catered for, including halal and kosher.
St Joseph’s beautiful chapel and tranquil prayer room are open to all patients, families and carers.
