When Kites started over 7 years ago, Child Bereavement as a concept was still in its infancy. Even now, child bereavement literature and research lags well behind that of adult bereavement.

We started our education programme for schools and latterly, for other professionals because we found that schools were sometimes struggling with how to cope with bereavement within a school environment and that this was, in some cases, having a profoundly negative impact on the way the children and the staff feel about their school.

In 2007 we worked with The Learning Trust in Hackney to put together some guidelines for schools on how to deal with bereavements in the school environment. They can be found here (download).

Anyone working with children, for example, childminders, social care staff, health visitors, mentors in schools, nursery nurses and others may benefit from Kites training programme and all are welcome.
