Counselling and Bereavement Support

St. Joseph’s has a large team of counsellors and psychotherapists, including staff, volunteers and trainees, that provides psychological support to patients and to their families and friends. We also offer support to bereaved Hackney residents between the ages of 18-50 and to bereaved children living in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets whose bereavements did not happen under the care of St. Joseph’s.

The Patient and Family Counselling Service provides support to individual patients and to the friends and families who have been affected by the patient’s illness. The Patient and Family Counselling Service also offers counselling to bereaved children.

The Bereavement Service offers support to adult relatives and friends of those who have died under the care of St. Joseph’s and also to bereaved residents of Hackney aged 18-50 years.

Volunteer counsellor recruitment We provide placements for qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists who are interested in volunteering at St. Joseph’s in the psychological therapies team. We usually recruit in the early Spring and the Autumn. We currently have no vacancies.
